Well, it’s no secret that gas prices have been in the news a lot lately.

I covered the topic is recent blogs, including these from January, April, July, early August and late August.  If you’ve travelled to one of our rental homes South Carolina this summer, you’ve probably noticed something pleasant happening at the pump.

The news continues to be good, and earlier predictions that gas prices would fall below the $2 mark in some places have come true.  And you’ll never guess what fine city fares the best in the nation!

According to an Associated Press report out of Camarillo, California, the average price in the U.S. for a gallon of regular unleaded has dropped 27 cents in the last three weeks, to $2.44.  It’s a classic example of supply exceeding demand, even though crude prices are up slightly.

The lowest price in the continental U.S. was Charleston, coming in at an average of $1.94.

The highest was Los Angeles at $3.31.   Here’s a link to the story:  http://www.abcnews4.com/story/30025384/survey-us-gasoline-price-drops-27-cents-over-3-weeks

This is a boon for everyone, and especially for travelers.  Many of the folks who come to SC vacation rentals, be they Isle of Palms vacation rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston, arrive by car  –  or if they fly, rent a car upon arrival to the Lowcountry.

The price per gallon has dropped precipitously since recent years, and the savings can be substantial  –  several hundred dollars per family, annually.  Why not apply that money toward something much more fun than paying it to a gas station/oil company.  How about several gourmet meals while you’re here in a Charleston beach house (a catered party, perhaps?).  Or Spoleto tickets.  Or some extra time in a luxury house on Isle of Palms.

$1.94 might be the average price, but you can find lower prices around the Lowcountry.  I just paid $1.84 at Costco yesterday.

Local news station Live 5 News has a handy tool to find the lowest gas prices around the area and near our beach rentals Charleston.  You can find it on their free app, or on their website here:  http://www.live5news.com/category/194924/gas-prices

PLUS……A fun activity for the kids

Our beach rentals Charleston are very family-friendly, and it’s nice to be able to think up activities that keep them entertained and also educate them at the same time.

Here’s a link to a neat idea on Facebook  –   an easy and very colorful experiment that involves simple ingredients – a bowl of milk, food coloring, and dish soap (Dawn works great).

There’s actually a good lesson behind the phenomenon, one that you and your kids both might find interesting.  Here’s the science behind it:  http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/milk-color-explosion/#how-does-it-work

So enjoy the gas savings, have some kitchen fun with the kids, and remember to contact Exclusive Properties when you are searching for beach house rentals Charleston SC.  Our Isle of Palms luxury rentals are peerless.
