How to Spend a Festive Weekend Around Our Rentals
The holiday events just keep rolling along near our SC vacation rentals, and you can see red and green everywhere. All aboard the Polar Express in the Lowcountry!
This past weekend was filled with parades and tree lightings. This coming weekend, it’s all about holiday markets.
If you happen to be here in one of our SC vacation rentals this coming weekend, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, you won’t have a lack of festive holiday happenings from which to choose. They’re all quite family-friendly and appropriate for all ages in your Charleston beach house. They’ll provide great local shopping opportunities for those left on your list, or offer you the perfect thing to put on your dinner table.
This is round one, and it’s mainly about the markets…
Friday, December 8th – Charleston
If you’re here staying in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals, you’ve got to visit the historic City Market, located between East Bay and Meeting Street. It’s a great place to find souvenirs, handmade Lowcountry items (including the ever-popular sweetgrass basket), cool jewelry, etc. This time of year, it’s a perfect place to do some truly “local” Christmas shopping.
Fridays and Saturdays for part of the year, they also offer the Night Market, with plenty of vendors and live music until 10:30 p.m.
This Friday is a very special one. It’s their second annual Enchanted Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Here’s what’s happening:
- 6:30 – Musical sounds of John Sherrill
- 7:00 – Mason Prep Choir
- 7:15 – Beauty & the Beast arrive and fill the Holiday Market with holiday music
- 7:25 – Little Dickens Carolers
- 7:30 – Tree Lighting
- After the tree is lit, there will be photo ops with Santa, Belle and the Beast.
- If you bring anew unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, you’ll receive free hot chocolate and a T-shirt!
In the theme of the evening, “Beauty & the Beast,” organizers say to come and “Be Our Guest!” Here’s their website.
Saturday, December 9th – Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant Holiday Farmers Market & Craft Show
This Saturday, check out the 18th annual Holiday Farmers Market and Craft Show. It takes place on the site of the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market Pavilion by Moultrie Middle School on Coleman Boulevard, and will go from 11:00 till 4:00.
Local craftspeople will sell their wares, and there’ll be plenty of edible goodies available for purchase. Santa will be there to meet the kids and give out holiday surprises.
Admission and parking are free, and it’s another great place to find holiday gifts. This market is especially convenient to all our Isle of Palms vacation rentals – just head over to Sullivan’s Island, then take the Ben Sawyer Drawbridge to Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. It will be on your left. Here’s more.
Saturday, December 9th – Downtown
Charleston Holiday Market
Speaking of downtown, there will be a lot going on there as well. The famous Charleston Farmers Market has technically finished for its regular season… but fret not, for the next couple of weekends they’re having their special Holiday Market in Marion Square, the site of the normal downtown market. It’ll go on from 9:00 until 3:00 (Dec. 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th) and will feature more great gift options and gourmet food.
Here’s their official site with the whole scoop.
Sunday, December 10th – Charleston
Downtown Holiday Market AND Second Sunday on King
Then on Sunday, the fun continues on both sides of the Cooper River. Downtown, the Marion Square Holiday Market will be rolling again from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00. This Sunday is also the second Sunday of the month, so that means a special holiday edition of the wildly popular event, Second Sundays on King. Expect lots of carolers, holiday shopping, decorations and promotions, and of course the presence of the big guy himself, Santa.
It takes place on King Street from Marion Square to Queen Street and is an easy drive from all our luxury beach house rentals SC, be they Folly Beach rentals Charleston or our IOP rental homes South Carolina.
