Charleston is voted the top vacation destination in the U.S. – yet again
The accolades keep rolling in, especially now that we seem to be smack dab in the season of “top ten” and “best of” lists.
One of the most highly anticipated (and well-regarded) of all lists has just been released – the Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice Awardsfor 2014. And they just named Charleston the favorite place to visit in the U.S.
This makes the fourth year in a row that Charleston has been named the top city in America.
If you’ve been to one of our SC vacation rentals before, whether you stayed in a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, this probably comes as no surprise. There is something truly special about the Lowcountry, in just about every category – history, weather, natural beauty, outdoor activities, food, culture, festivals, friendly people, you name it. And a Charleston beach house is the ideal home base to experience it all.
As Charleston’s esteemed mayor Joe Riley put it, “The people of Charleston are honored to once again be named Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice No. 1 Top U.S. City… To be recognized for the fourth consecutive year is truly a testament to Charleston’s vibrant culture, genuine hospitality and wonderful people, who make it such a special place to both live and visit.”
The rankings were based on the results of 76,659 questionnaires filled out by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
Charleston just missed being the top destination in the world by a fraction of a point. Charleston’s score: 83.792, Florence (that’s Italy, not SC): 83.870.
That’s not much of a difference – and yet you sure save a lot on airfare coming to one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals instead of a Florentine villa. Plus, by staying in one of our beach rentals Charleston, you don’t have to go through the hassle of exchanging currency, PLUS you speak the language fluently!
Condé Nast’s editor-in-chief Pilar Guzman appeared on CBS’ “This Morning” this week to discuss the latest Readers’ Choice awards. She called Charleston “the little city that could.”
“I think there are a lot of parallels between a city like Florence and a city like Charleston… It is just one of the most beloved cities and we just keep hearing about it again and again, and you get big name chefs that are opening up restaurants, and more… it’s a very exciting time for Charleston and the South in general.”
Upon hearing that, host Charlie Rose remarked, “I’m surprised there aren’t more people buying second homes in Charleston, because it has everything.”
(Actually, Charlie, there are). But if you don’t want to go to the expense of purchasing a second home, you can have all the benefits with none of the hassles by staying in one of our rental homes South Carolina, namely one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. You can have a home away from home without the responsibility of upkeep, taxes, maintenance, insurance, a mortgage, yada yada. EP has the best in luxury beach house rentals SC, and we handle the hassles for you.
