Beach rentals Charleston – good news on the flying front
Coming to visit beach rentals Charleston makes sense, no matter how you get here.
As I covered in this BLOG, gas prices in South Carolina are yet again the lowest in the nation.
If you are coming to stay in one of our SC vacation rentals – either a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston – there’s a good chance that you or someone in your group will be flying here. And chances are, you’ll be flying in and out of Charleston International Airport.
This is a good thing.
CHS, as it’s known, is one of the most pleasant and least stressful airports to fly through. It can be a downright pleasant experience, thanks to the friendly staff, the human scale of the facility, and its convenient location. It generally takes 30 minutes at the most to drive from CHS to all our luxury beach house rentals SC – both our Isle of Palms vacation rentals and our Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC.
After all, having an easy commute to and from the airport leaves you even more time to enjoy your Charleston beach house!
As nice as all that is, there’s even more good news. CHS is the busiest airport in the state of South Carolina and has been undergoing a $189 million upgrade, making it even more convenient and pleasant to use.
And it was just announced that airfares in and out of Charleston have dropped an impressive 17.2% in the last five years.
The drop in airfares has to do with the addition of new carriers – namely Southwest (which came to Charleston in 2011) and JetBlue (which began service to/from CHS in 2013) – coupled with a drop in fuel prices.

TSA federal security director Debra Engel put it this way: “Charleston is no longer a sleepy little airport but the gateway to one of the top tourist destinations in the world.”
You have several options when flying to one of one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston. Airlines servicing CHS include American (US Airways), Delta, United, JetBlue, Southwest, and Alaska Airlines. They all make it a snap to get from wherever your home is, to your beach house Charleston.

Also, something interesting going on near our beach rentals Charleston…
Ken Burns is an American treasure, perhaps the most famous and beloved documentarian of all time, producing seminal films on the Civil War, the National Park system, baseball, jazz, the Roosevelts, and several more.
One of his more recent productions was all about the baseball great Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier while playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Burns has Charleston connections, and he came here in December for a very special evening at the Gaillard. He, along with the esteemed Harvard historian Henry Louis Gates, spoke about race relations – especially poignant in light of the Mother Emanuel shooting which occurred right across the street from the Gaillard. He also previewed the film about Jackie Robinson, which has since aired nationally on PBS.
The City of Charleston is having a special screening of the movie tomorrow – Saturday, August 13th, at a very appropriate venue – the Joe, the baseball stadium downtown. On hand will be Sarah Burns (Ken’s daughter) and David McMahon, producers and writers for the film, who will be speaking from atop the dugouts – the first time they have made a speaking public appearance about the film.
Tickets are just $5, and kids are free with an adult. Your ticket will be a cool Jackie Robinson baseball card, available only as supplies last. CBS News5 anchor Raphael James will be the emcee.
Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and the screening starts at 6:00 p.m.
So check out a cool movie… book a flight soon at a great rate, and call us for the best in rental homes South Carolina. Our beach rentals Charleston are the best in the biz.
